As part of our coverage for the 2025 Federal Election, all four of the ridings in the Niagara Region will be profiled – including St. Catharines.
While maybe the least changed of the four local ridings, there are a few adjustments to St. Catharines’ borders ahead of the 2025 vote.
The riding gained part of the former Niagara Centre riding in St. Catharines that’s east of Twelve Mile Creek, and loses some territory in Western Hill to the Niagara West Riding.
Liberal Chris Bittle has held the St. Catharines riding since the party formed government in 2015, having been re-elected in both 2019 and 2021.
Running opposite Bittle is NDP candidate Karen Orlandi, who serves as a minister at the United Church of Canada in St. Catharines.
For the Conservatives, Bas Sluijmers has his name on the ballot. According to his website, he’s an account manager at a local company and a founding board member of Safe Families Niagara.
Dennis Wilson is on the ballot for the People’s Party of Canada in St. Catharines. The retired consultant says he’s running locally to bring a new way of thinking and a new set of possible solutions.
Running as an independent in the riding is Christopher Reilly, a mental health nurse that claims he’s committed to putting people over profits, and policies over politics.
