Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates has introduced new legislation at Queen’s Park aimed at reviving and expanding Ontario’s staycation tax credit.
The proposal would offer families up to $1,000 in tax relief for spending on hotels, restaurants, attractions and other tourism-related businesses across the province.
Gates previously brought forward similar legislation during the pandemic. While the Ford government implemented a limited version of the credit, it was discontinued in 2022.
The new bill would make the program permanent and broaden the range of eligible expenses to provide lasting support for Ontario’s tourism sector.
